We wandered in the rain until we happened across a cleaning in the woods that sloped up a large hill. Laying on his side staring up to the sky was Robert. He had a wide grin on is face.

“You know,” he started, “I never would have done this back home. It is relaxing though.” He looked down at us. Through the gloom, I could see an evil expression on his face.

“Are you alright Robert?” Diane asked slowly making her way up to him. The sound of the wind and rain nearly drowning out her voice as it intensified.

“Stop,” Robert demanded. There was no excitement, no exclamation in his voice. It was simply a command.

“Robert?” she asked concerned about his remark.

“I don’t want to have to hurt you Diane. I’ve had a taste of going back and I must say, it isn’t for me.” He stood up and removed an item from his pocket. It was the gem he had shown us from the other land.

“No Robert,” Jean-Luc stated as he leapt in front of Diane, shielding her with his body.

“Fool, I have no desire to harm her. Diane, come join me and realize your fullest potential.” Robert held his hand out to her and smiled.

Diane smiled back. “Robert, do the right thing and come back to us. Even if you want to stay that is fine, but let your friends help you.”

Robert looked at her and for a moment looked as though he would walk down the hill to her. He shook violently in place before a maniacal laugh could be heard over the sound of the storm. He held the gem in his hand above his head and yelled. “You will all join me or one by one you shall perish!” With that, he crushed the gem.

Get down! Lumadian screamed in my head.

“Jean-Luc, get her to cover,” I yelled as I jumped on Cat and covered him with my body.

Jean-Luc spun with amazing speed and agility, scooping up Diane and diving with her into the vegetation at the base of the hill. He turned just before they impacted the ground, using his body as a shield to protect her from the ground.

From behind us, we could hear crackling as though lightning had formed where Robert had been standing. The wind rushed over our bodies towards our friend then a loud thunderous boom echoed over everyone. When we looked again, Robert and nearly the entire hill had disappeared leaving behind a smoldering hole as the only evidence something had happened.
